The Wesley Sneijder saga continues

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Wesley Sneijder have been given a slight boost.

The Inter Milan midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, especially with the recent retirement of Paul Scholes.

Inter are keen to hold onto the Dutch international with new coach Gian Piero Gasperini recently said he was “optimistic” about keeping the player.

Spanish outfit Malaga are spending big and are reported to have offered €35 million for Sneijder.

Transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti saidthis week: “A friend of mine who has a restaurant chain, including one near Malaga which is run by his brother, confirmed to me that he learned from Malaga’s executives they had made an offer of €35 million for Sneijder.”

The Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed Inter will hold talks on Monday and Tuesday over whether to sell Sneijder, but the player’s agent says no official bid has been lodged at this stage.

“It’s not so strange to see Sneijder’s name linked to the top sides who want to strengthen their squads,” Soren Lerby told Voetbal International.

“In any case, I believe that it’s still early for those big clubs to act in a definitive manner. What I can say for sure is that Wes has a contract until 2015 with Inter and there is nothing concrete at the moment.”
